3 Clean, Green, Cruelty-Free Deodorants That Actually Work

For us clean, green beauty lovers, finding a deodorant that works without poisoning us is a real (first-world) problem. The weather is warming up, and we need a solid option that supports our active, adventurous lifestyles. Well, here are three of them! All offerings below are free of aluminum, parabens, synthetic fragrance, and all the other unnecessary chemical junk that makes up drugstore deodorant. Each option is equally wonderful and effective for men, women, and all the peeps.

EO $6.99
Unlike many green cosmetic brands that are only available online, EO deodorants are widely available at grocery stores and Targets across the country, as well as online.

EO deodorants are organic, gluten-free, and cruelty-free with no synthetic fragrance- only essential oils! It does contain organic ethanol, a form of alcohol, which is not harmful but still worth noting as some prefer to steer clear of it.

I’m a fan of the Vetiver because it is the longest lasting and cleanest, most neutral scent. Reapplication throughout the day is necessary with this product, but their neat little spray bottle makes it easy without having to press or roll it on and irritate your skin.

Schmidt’s $8.99
Schmidt’s has a variety of delicious scents naturally derived from essential oils, like Rose + Vanilla and Lavender + Sage to name a couple. Their fragrance options range from citrus to fragrance-free, so there is something for everyone.

Schmidt’s is vegan, cruelty-free, and certified by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (you know, that leaping bunny logo) and PETA. They have also been honored by the Humane Society for their efforts toward ending animal testing in the U.S.

This product is durable, but there is a chance it will require reapplication if you’re planning to go from day to night activities. I’m not on board with deodorant sticks. (I can’t stand that feeling of the sticky-ish bar dragging and pulling on my skin. Am I alone in that?) I prefer their jar option, but the stick works just as well. They also have an awesome recycling program: for every five empty Schmidt’s containers you recycle with them, you get one new deodorant free!

PiperWai $11.99
In the pitch on their website, they write, Meet your new essential. Instant love connection, for obvious reasons. PiperWai is on the pricier side for a deodorant, I’ll give you that, but it’s by far my favorite because it’s durable and a little bit goes a long way, so the jar lasts for months. (A pea size is all you need!)

I’ve experimented with the products above, along with many, many others, and this one is a next-level essential. The activated charcoal is what gives the deodorant the strength to block odor all day long. It’s ideal for sensitive skin, and don’t let the charcoal scare ya- it won’t stain your clothes.

It has a neutral scent that does have a low-key spa-like quality to it. Also, this bundle of love is vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free!
